Privacy Policy

Overview

Celebrity: Get a Clue ("the app") is developed and published by Whitmore Consortium. This policy describes what information is collected in connection with the app and how it is used.

Analytics and crash reports

With the user's consent, the app uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data (app session information, feature usage) and Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and non-fatal error information (device model, OS version, app version). Both services are operated by Google; their privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy.

Analytics and crash reporting are disabled by default. The user is asked for consent the first time the app is opened, and the choice can be changed at any time in Settings › Share usage and crash data.

When consent is granted, the app generates a random identifier and stores it on the device. This identifier is included with analytics events and crash reports to associate data from the same installation; it is not linked to the user's name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information. If consent is later withdrawn, no further data is collected, but data already sent cannot be retroactively deleted from Firebase.

Correction submissions

The app allows users to voluntarily submit corrections to name or clue data. When a correction is submitted, the following information is sent to our servers and stored:

The correction submission identifier is separate from the analytics identifier and is generated the first time a correction is submitted, regardless of the user's analytics consent choice. It is used solely to detect and prevent abuse of the correction submission system (e.g., identifying repeated submissions of the same correction). It is not linked to the user's name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information, and it is never sent to our servers except as part of a correction submission the user actively chooses to send.

Correction submissions are stored in Firebase Cloud Firestore and used only to review and act on reported issues. We do not use them for any other purpose.

In-app purchases

The app offers optional in-app purchases processed through Google Play Billing. Purchase transactions are handled entirely by Google. We do not receive or store payment information. Google's privacy policy applies to all payment processing: policies.google.com/privacy.

Data sharing

We do not sell or transfer user information to third parties, except as necessary to operate the services described above (Firebase, Google Play).

Data retention

Analytics and crash report data is retained according to Firebase's default retention settings. Correction submissions are retained indefinitely for reference.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last revised. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
